Este întotdeauna posibil ca optica telescopului să se decolimeze. Transportul constant poate supune telescoapele șocurilor, ceea ce poate duce la pierderea colimării optice a oglinzilor sau lentilelor. În cazuri extreme, o astfel de aliniere necorespunzătoare poate duce la o imagine neclară. Acesta este motivul pentru care există oculare speciale și lasere care pot fi folosite pentru a aduce sistemul optic al telescopului înapoi în starea corectă de colimare.
